The Good and the Bad of UI: Presenting in a fun way how a good designer works VS a bad designer. Some details: 1st part About UX and UI – This is an introduction to make sure everyone is on the same page. There’s an ocean of content out there attempting to explain the User Interface and the User Experience, but most do a poor job by using very simple language that falls short of the real thing. In most explanations, UX and UI design are presented as separate disciplines altogether, and although they are different concepts, in the practice of design they are more connected than most people think. So for those people still trying to make sense of this, in this talk goes my attempt at demystifying UX and UI. In most cases when we refer to UX or UI we are talking from the perspective of the USER who’s using an interface and having an experience. That’s all fine and good, but that’s just one angle. It just so happens that there’s another perspective that gets shuffled into the conversation when referring to UX/UI, and that’s the perspective of the DESIGNER. I’ll deconstruct these concepts in both dimensions, with the hope of clearing up the murky water around this topic. 2nd part About the evaluation heuristics, what are they, how to use them, how to take advantage of them?! and a lot of examples. This is the main part of my talk. 3rd part This part is constructed to be quick yet effective. I’ll talk about: The do’s and don’ts of UX focusing on a.”The need for research”, b.”Choosing the right method” c.”Execution makes it or breaks it”. The good and the bad of UI designers, where I basically do a comparison between these two kinds. The guidelines I will be presenting are general rules of thumb and will mostly be applicable to any web and mobile application with some exceptions. My talk will be more focused on mobile/web applications rather than on physical products.
